Darkest Night

I know it is a little late for Halloween but I received inspiration to illustrate an interaction between Charme (one of my unicorn characters) with the Helhesten (a phantom, three-legged horse that haunts cemeteries - feel free to link me to more info on these creatures).

Firstly, Charme is a unicorn and originally I was going to paint Spire, but figured, to be honest, Spire would have avoided an encounter with the phantom horse. Therefore, I drew Charme. You may or may not notice she is not all there - that is because half of her reflects the sky. She has been seen by various human cultures and some claim she is a phantom half-horse, that she had been slaughtered for her meat, but the rest of her was thrown away and haunts the moors where she was slain. Another culture claimed she is a creature of the sky.

Ah, and so much more.

My take on this scene is that the Helhesten is studying the unicorn, blind and deaf, it can still sense the unicorn and it's good magic. Charme keeps to herself and waits for the phantom to continue on it's way.

I am VERY HAPPY with how the backgrounds came out, it's my best attempt yet!

Oh, and by the way, I'm not trying to make Christianity look evil and/or good. I'm Christian, but hey, symbolism is fun!
